of dedications and fathers

Pastor John with Emmalee

Today was a great day! We were able to stand before God and our church and make a public dedication of our daughter Emmalee to the Lord. It was awesome because we had friends and family in both Nevada and Alabama watching online. To make it even sweeter, Jamie had come up with the idea to dedicate Emmalee on Father's Day. I can't think of a better gift.

As we walked up the stage, Pastor John, who has dedicated all of our children to the Lord, noted that this happens about every two or three years. We are old pros at this point.

Jonathan was excited right until we went on stage and stood behind me the entire time. JoJo, on the other hand, was ready to explore the stage but Pastor John kept him on the straight and narrow path. JoJo eventually followed his brother's lead and hid behind me. Charlotte, holding on to Jamie's hand, was along for the ride.  Emmalee did great and was enjoying every minute and didn't fuss a bit. I'm guessing the similarities between Pastor John's and my father's head (they reflect the same amount of light) put her at ease. As we exited the stage, JoJo bounced down the stairs, Pastor John confirmed a comment he had made earlier as JoJo was wandering the stage,

"See, all boy".

Mommy & Emmalee

Father's Day has been called the lesser of two holidays, playing second fiddle to Mother's day. When I went into Stater Bros today, the aisle that was recently packed with flowers in various configurations and containers was conspicuously empty today.  I don't really worry about that because I know what has done and continues to do for our family. Her celebration should be significant. I will tell you though, she made me feel no less significant today.  Thank you Jamie!

My dear old dad, my model of manhood.

Papa to these kiddos.

I love these crazies. They take after their daddy.

My personalized, signed copy of Jim Gaffigan's new book, Dad is Fat. My wife is cooler than yours.

And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4)
